Overview

Prime Architects designed the renovation of 22 patient rooms and bathrooms in Building 60 B Wing. Eighteen rooms shared toilet/shower rooms; the design gives every room its own. The facility stayed in use, with the contractor working on about four rooms at a time.

Technical Scope

  • Architecture/Interiors: Shared toilet rooms converted to one toilet/shower room per patient room. New ceilings, cabinetry and flooring. Doors replaced for better passage from bedroom to toilet/shower room.
  • Accessibility: New toilet rooms sized to accommodate wheelchairs and patient lifts.
  • Plumbing: New plumbing fixtures in each toilet/shower room. Vanity added in each bedroom. Water distribution system upgraded.
  • Mechanical: Exhaust system upgraded.
  • Electrical: New lighting.
  • CPS: Bi-monthly construction period services.

Challenge and Solution

The Community Living Center had to remain in use. Phasing limited the contractor to about four rooms at a time.
