Prime Architects undertook a comprehensive renovation project for the Dallas VA Medical Center, specifically focusing on the 60 B Wing patient rooms. The primary goal was to enhance patient comfort and accessibility by converting shared toilet rooms into individual ones for each patient room. The patient rooms were also updated with new ceilings, lighting, cabinetry, and flooring.
Doors were replaced to provide better passage from the bedrooms to the bathrooms. The new bathrooms were designed to accommodate wheelchairs and lifts. New plumbing fixtures were provided in each toilet/shower room and a vanity added in the patients’ bedrooms.
The renovation project was carefully phased to allow the facility to remain operational throughout the construction period. This approach minimized disruption to the medical center’s operations while ensuring that the new patient rooms would meet contemporary standards for accessibility and comfort.
