Prime Architects designed and developed the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) at the Shenandoah VA Medical Center. First, we collaborated with the Shenandoah VAMC staff to understand their vision and requirements. This project involved creating a private building, leased to the Department of Veterans Affairs, to serve as a VAMC facility.

To begin with, we focused on meeting the VA Design Standards for CBOC Facilities. The facility includes spaces for physical health, procedures, laboratory/blood draw, mental health, counseling/group therapy, physical therapy, tele-retinal, and audiology. Moreover, we designed an open-concept workroom and a telehealth room for virtual patient care, ensuring comprehensive healthcare services.

During the planning phase, we conducted thorough site visits and field investigations. This proactive approach allowed us to address any potential challenges early on. Additionally, we performed energy calculations and modeling to ensure compliance with Green Globes standards, resulting in a highly efficient and sustainable building.

The construction process was carefully managed to minimize disruption to the surrounding area. We phased the construction activities to maintain a smooth workflow and meet the project timeline. Furthermore, we integrated essential support spaces such as waiting/reception areas, storage, restrooms, and mechanical/electrical/communications rooms.

In conclusion, Prime Architects successfully completed the community-based outpatient clinic at the Shenandoah VA Medical Center on time and on budget. The new CBOC not only meets the functional needs of the Shenandoah VA Medical Center but also adheres to the stringent standards required for such projects.
